Dragonweyr Station

In the one Dragonriders of Pern novel where the Western Continent was explored, the dragonrider returned with the information that the Western Continent was desert. With the exceptions of a couple of places in the Southern part of the Northern Continent, there aren't really any deserts in the areas inhabited. So, here is an idea of what the general region around Star Stone Weyr looks like:






The basis for the area is the Painted Desert in Arizona, United States.

Trees will only exist around oasis and other sources of water, like near the coast. Shrubs, and cacti will be the dominant plant life. Here is a link to an article on Wikipedia about deserts.

Keeping this in mind, the inhabitants of Star Stone Weyr will only wear wherhide when they're flying on dragons. They will tend to wear lighter weight clothing, and make use of layers for during the colder nights. Long sleeved clothing will be prevalent. Lightweight fabrics, broad brimmed hats, scarves and sturdy boots will be the most common place worn items. One offworld accessory that will also be common place would be sun glasses.

About desert weather: There is a season for everything. Winter is often dry and cold. Bitterly so. Sometimes, its wet and it can snow, though rarely. The spring is often cool. Summer is the one to be aware of. Wind... Its hot, gets dirt and sand everywhere, and it can bring tornadoes. Autumn is a lot like spring, but more dry.
When it rains, there is a danger of flash floods.
